South Africa. Archaeological? Yes. Open-air? Yes. Museum? Yes. EXARC? Not yet.

In its quest for archaeological open-air museums across the world, EXARC received assistance from ICOM, the International Museum Federation with over 30,000 members worldwide. The South African National Committee told us, there are a respectable number of 80 open-air museums in South Africa, some of which have reconstructed buildings, based on archaeology. We would love listing those on our map of archaeological open-air museums at www.exarc.net/venues. We are well aware that those museums are different from European or US examples, but wouldn’t it be boring if we’d all be alike?

We have sent all these museums a letter and some information material of EXARC – now we wait for answers! Let us know if we can list your museum, wherever you are.
